FileScout App For BlackBerry Updated To Version 2.9.0.5 With WiFi Sharing, Improvements & Fixes

March 16th, 2012 @ 10:52 AM | By: Mauricio

Here’s another app we haven’t mentioned in a while, FileScout for BlackBerry smartphones. I use this app regularly and believe it’s the best file management app now available for BlackBerry. Today’s update to version 2.9.0.5 makes it that much better with WiFi file sharing, improvements and fixes. Here’s the changelog:

  • WiFi-Sharing (via separate FREE Plugin that can be installed via the Options)
WiFi-Sharing allows you to up and download files to and from your BlackBerry Device via a modern Browser (like Chrome, Firefox or Safari)
  • For Users of OS5 and above: The WiFi-Sharing Plugin comes with a WLAN SSID-Autostart feature! So you can configure the Plugin to autostart the sharing service once your device is seeing (not necessarily connected to) a specific SSID (multiple SSIDs could be configured). As soon as the Device does not have any connection to the SSID the Service will be automatically shut down (if you are not using FileScout currently).
  • Improved Thumbnail-Cache Handling
  • Thumbnail-Cache can be now completely wiped (and re-created) from the Thumbnail Option
  • Small performance & stability fixes

The BlackBerry awesomeness keeps on rolling out of Mobile World Congress! Earlier today I showed you a demo of a document sharing app on BlackBerry PlayBook which was created by The Astonishing Tribe, now known as the Design Foresights team at RIM, a company acquired in December 2010. That app is called Confetti and RIM just put up an official concept demo video of it along with a video for another concept app called PitchRocket.

February 28th, 2012 @ 12:07 PM | By: Mauricio

You gotta love The Astonishing Tribe and what they’re doing on the BlackBerry PlayBook, which will eventually make its way to BlackBerry smartphones. Captured at Mobile World Congress yesterday is a video preview of an upcoming document sharing app created by TAT for the PlayBook. This app allows you to wirelessly share documents by swiping it in the person’s direction or by placing PlayBooks side-by-side. You can also “power swipe” a doc so that is shows up on a presentation screen, still wirelessly!

Videos: BlackBerry Durability Testing - Watch Them Get Drowned, Dropped & Crushed

February 6th, 2012 @ 2:06 PM | By: Mauricio

Do you ever wonder how your BlackBerry smartphone’s durability is tested? RIM today posted a few videos showing what they do to make sure BlackBerry devices are strong enough to deal with real-world mishaps. From the Inside BlackBerry Blog:

Today, I’m going to give you an inside look at the testing we do during the development of your BlackBerry® smartphone to help ensure it lives up to the high standards that BlackBerry is known for. Our team works to make sure that your BlackBerry smartphone is both durable and reliable – which basically means we try to break them so that you, #TeamBlackBerry, would be hard pressed to do the same. =D

Your BlackBerry smartphone is your connection to your friends and family. It is your lifeline, and we want it to always stay in operating condition so that you can stay in contact with the important people in your life. So when you accidentally drop your BlackBerry smartphone, or sit on it, or spill your morning coffee on it, we want it to keep working.

So how do we work to ensure that your BlackBerry smartphone will keep working? Well, we drop them, bend them, shock them, soak them and zap them…a lot.

The horror! The following videos are not for the feint of heart Videos: BlackBerry Durability Testing Watch Them Get Drowned, Dropped & Crushed .

Play NES Games Like Super Mario, Zelda & More On BlackBerry PlayBook With FCEUXpb!

Things just keep getting better for the BlackBerry PlayBook! Apps and games for the PlayBook are still rolling into BlackBerry App World and now we have an awesome port courtesy of Trevor Nunes aka froggyface. Trevor was able to port FCEUX to the PlayBook as FCEUXpb, allowing users to play NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) games like Super Mario, Duck Hunt, Zelda and any other NES games on their tablet.

FCEUXpb the FCEUX port for Blackberry Playbook

FCEUX is a Nintendo Entertainment System and ‘Famicom’ emulator of the classic 8bit console of the 1980s. This project depends on SDL and TouchControlOverlay libraries found on the github.com/blackberry pages.

Besides for making FCEUXpb available for download, Trevor also put the source code for it up on GitHub so interested developers can help out. FCEUXpb is not available on BlackBerry App World yet so you’ll have to manually side-load it.
