BlackBerry Wins Govie Awards for Security

BlackBerry has, over the years, consistently proved that it is the indisputable leader in the mobile security department. For well over 20 years, security has been at the core of all of their offerings. BlackBerry’s fortunes may have changed over the years, but the company hasn’t lost its focus on security. Recently, BlackBerry received a couple of awards for making mobile communications exceptionally secure.

The Security Products magazine, which is a publication for armed professionals, applauded BlackBerry’s expertise and strength in offering incredibly secure mobile platforms for the government sector by conferring two ‘Govies’ Government Security Awards on the Canadian phone maker.

BlackBerry received the awards in two categories: Access Control for Secure Work Space for iOS and Android and Data Security for BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 (BES 10).

The Govies awards recognize companies that provide security solutions and products to state, federal and local government departments in categories that are of utmost importance to security professionals and decision makers.

Since BlackBerry has been protecting the mobile communications of governments for well over a decade, these awards attest the company’s ability to meet the demands of organizations that require utmost levels of security. BlackBerry has always enjoyed the trust and goodwill of governments. All 7 of the G7 countries use BlackBerry’s platform for secure mobile communications.

Largest enterprises in the automotive, pharmaceutical and law firms also use BlackBerry’s enterprise class mobile solutions for data security.

Governments have continued to use BlackBerry’s mobile solutions even after sales dipped in the global market. These awards are another proof of the faith governments have in BlackBerry.

In March, BlackBerry’s Secure Work Space for iOS and Android received the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 certification. BlackBerry’s own devices have always been known for providing top-notch security and the company has proved that it can create similarly secure workspaces for Android and iOS. The FIPS 140-2 is a huge recognition. The Secure Work Space allows both government and private sector organizations that are concerned about their security to separate corporate data from employees’ personal data.

In order to receive the FIPS certification, the encryption technology has to successfully pass rigorous testing. Only then it becomes suitable for encrypting and securing sensitive governmental or corporate data.

The FIPS certification clearly demonstrates the security capabilities of BlackBerry for transferring sensitive data on third party devices. By launching Secure Work Space BlackBerry has extended BES10 protocols to devices running Android and iOS. This ensures the safety of data within the enterprise. Secure Work Space makes it possible for employees to use the device for their personal purposes while at the same time administrators can secure, configure, erase and communicate within the secured Work Space on the device.

The FIPS certification isn’t the only recognition BlackBerry earned in recent times. Immediately after winning the FIPS certification, BlackBerry 10 also became the first mobility solution in the world to win the Defense Information Systems Agency’s (DISA) highly acclaimed Full Operational Capability (FOC) certification. This certification means that BlackBerry 10 can be safely deployed on U.S. Department of Defense Networks.
