Tips to Improve Browsing on BlackBerry 10

The BlackBerry 10 comes with an incredibly fast browser. It is faster than most other mobile browsers. We have got some great tips to make your browsing sessions on BB 10 even better.

1. Desktop Mode

Since the browser is quite fast, you can use it in the Desktop mode to view websites as you would do on a computer. It is true that mobile versions of sites are good for quick viewing, but nothing can beat the desktop experience.

To activate the ‘Desktop Mode’, tap the three dots that you can see in the bottom right corner. Then tap ‘Settings’ followed by ‘Developer Tools’. Now set ‘Desktop Mode’ to On.

2. Restore previous browsing session

You can set the browser to restore your last browsing session each time you open it. This eliminates the need to go through your history to discover sites that you visited during your previous sessions.

To activate this option, tap the three dots at the bottom and then tap ‘Display and Actions’. Now choose ‘My Tabs From Last Time’ from the ‘On Startup Show’ dropdown menu.

3. Activate the Reader Mode

You can read long articles in the ‘Reader Mode’, without getting distracted by ads. And when you use the Reader Mode, you can adjust the size of the font.

To activate this feature, tap the three dots and then tap ‘Reader’. If you have got a QWERTY keyboard, you just need to press the letter R on your keyboard.

You should, however, remember that the Reader Mode isn’t supported by all sites.

4. Access your history quickly

Using the BB 10 browser, you can bring up your browsing history. You only have to tap and hold the back button.

5. Add website shortcuts to Home screen

If there are sites that you visit very often, you can add shortcuts to them on your Home screen. To add a website to the Home screen, tap the three dots in the bottom and then tap ‘Add to Home Screen’.

6. Add websites to Bookmarks

Don’t want to add websites to the Home screen? You can still add them to the

Bookmarks. If you use a QWERTY keyword, you can access the bookmarks by pressing K.

7. Save websites for reading later

BlackBerry 10 browser lets you save web pages as a file that you can read offline. To save a webpage, tap the three dots in the bottom and then tap ‘Save Page’.

8. Private Browsing

Want to surf the net without leaving anything behind? Just turn on the ‘Private Browsing’ feature. To turn Private Browsing on, tap the three dots in the bottom and then tap ‘Settings’ followed by ‘Privacy and Security’. Set ‘Private Browsing’ to On.

9. Change default Search Engine

Bing is the default search engine on BB 10. To change it into something else, type something in the browser’s address bar. Now tap the drop down menu that appears in the top corner and select your favorite browser.

10. Clean up history

Web history consumes valuable storage space. You can either manually clean up web history items or set the browser to do it at a specific interval.

To clean up the history manually, you need to tap the browser menu and then tap ‘History’. Now tap the trash icon.

To set the browser to clean up the history, tap the three dots in the bottom and then tap ‘Privacy and Security’. Now choose a time period from the ‘Remove History Items’ dropdown list.
