Here is a quick overview of some cool BlackBerry apps we discovered this week.

Even Steven (ThinkQwick)

You might have lent money to a friend or borrowed from a colleague. This little app will help you keep a tab on your finances by keeping track of money borrowed and lent. The user interface is pretty basic. If you are lending money to your friends, tap the lend key and input the amount. You can also mention the purpose. If you are borrowing money, tap the borrow key and repeat the whole process. You can email the ledger to your friends if you want. The developer plans to make this app compatible with other platforms. You can download this app to your BlackBerry 10 device for free.

Jewel Smuggler (Rahul Shahani)

This is not exactly a new game; but it is quite addictive nonetheless. Since launching this app, the developer included several tweaks, changed the UI and made many other adjustments that made this game more interesting. You have to travel from one city to another, purchasing and selling jewels whose price can fall or rise due to random global events. This is a well-built game, runs smoothly and comes with an attractive UI. BlackBerry 10 users can try the free limited version. The full version runs $1.99.

Countdown (Applications Anonymous LLC)

All of us look forward to certain events and occasions. It could be your wedding anniversary or daughter’s birthday. No matter what the occasion is, this application helps you count the days until it occurs. The nice wallpapers add a cool effect. This app already comes with some standard holidays. Users can add their own holidays and customize the list. This application requires access to Shared Files. It runs $1.99.

EBook reader (Ebooks.com Limited)

Do you enjoy reading on your BlackBerry? If so, you will definitely like this app. The EBook Reader is an Android app compatible with BB 10. If you already have an account with ebooks.com or access to a few DRM free titles, this app will work without a hitch. The application comes with a neat layout. All titles are arranged on the bookshelf with good looking graphics. You can save bookmarks, group your books in collections, access free classics, and import books from third party stores. You will be able to read in the portrait or landscape mode. Other supported features include zoom with a pinch. This application is only available for BB 10 touch devices. It can be downloaded free.

Secure AntiVirus Pro (FileArchiveHaven)

BlackBerry devices come with inbuilt security features. However, the files that we download from the internet may be infected. This antivirus program ensures that files downloaded from the internet won’t infect your computer when it is attached to your BlackBerry. If Secure AntiVirus Pro suspects that a particular file is infected, it will quarantine that file instantly. These quarantined files can be restored. It should be noted that the ‘keep awake’ mode is active only when the app is running fully maximized. The software requires access to Shared Files to function properly. It supports all BB 10 devices. You can get your copy for $2.99.
