Check Out This Blackberry Z10 Clone From China Running… Android 4.0?

China is definitely the winner when it comes to knock-offs and cheap clones. Just do a quick search for iPhone knock-offs and you’ll find an endless list of devices available, all of which run Android instead of iOS. It’s pretty comical to see, especially since Jobs [late Apple CEO] once mentioned he was going to destroy the Android platform.

Following along those same lines, this next knock-off is perhaps even funnier. Apparently, someone got the bright idea of meshing the beautiful design of the Blackberry Z10, with the incredibly customizable Android OS. The most recent model was found on eBay for about $56, at least that’s the starting point for the auction.

The device is running Android 4.0, which is a shame because it’s not even the most up to date version. Furthermore it includes the following specs:

  • 800×480 3.5-inch display
  • 1GHz processor
  • 512MB storage capacity with microSD expansion slot (up to 32GB)
  • 256MB of installed RAM (ouch)
  • 2MP rear facing camera, 0.3MP front facing
  • Quad-band GSM support (850/900/1800/1900MHz) with dual SIM slots
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n functionality
  • 2,200mAH rechargeable battery

Even if you’re not big on hardware or you’re not very tech savvy, you can see those specs are quite laughable. Most modern smartphones now include about 1GB of installed RAM, at the least. In fact, many include even more than that for graphic intensive apps and better performance.

When you consider the low quality 2MP camera and the lack of more prominent features like increased storage, this thing starts to look pretty ridiculous.

The worst part about it is that it mimics the Blackberry Z10 design, complete with a knockoff Blackberry logo on the rear cover of the device. Judging by the images, it appears to be a little thicker than the genuine Z10 model, but it still looks remarkably similar.

Don’t fret about the design and lack of hardware though, because it comes bundled with a charger and earpods! Yay. That pretty much negates all the things wrong with the device, right?

Like I mentioned above, if you want to try your hand at bidding for one of these the bids originally started at $50, but have since increased to $60. I’d like to take this time to point out that you could find a much better device out there for around that same price, so understand that you would probably be throwing your money away picking up one of these.

I’d say the knockoff Blackberry Z10 running Android 4.0 is best reserved for super geeks interested in tinkering with the thing. Even then, $60 is a hell of a lot to pay for a device powered by hardware that’s way out of date.

What do you think of the specs, and the design? Are you a little upset that someone would so openly clone the Z10? Are you interested in bidding for the device?

It won’t be long before we see a lot more clones like this on the market, even if it is laughable it’s a pretty common thing. Don’t expect this to be the last you hear of a Blackberry 10 clone running Android. I’m sure there will be plenty more soon enough.
