![]() | Quick Update: RIM Cancels 16GB Playbook Model, 32GB and 64GB Models Still Available |
A new post published by Engadget this morning, pointed to RIM cancelling the 16GB Playbook model, which it seems, after a brief update from RIM, it has.
RIM will still be carrying the 32 and 64GB Playbook models in the future, but will not continue to carry the 16GB model which will be unavailable once the current inventory sells out.
RIM issued an official statement to Engadget, responding with the following comments:
“RIM will no longer be making the 16 GB model of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. The 16 GB PlayBook will continue to be available for distributors and retailers while quantities last. We continue to remain committed to the tablet space and the 32 GB and 64 GB models of the BlackBerry PlayBook continue to be available from our distributors and retailers around the world.
There is more value for our customers in the higher capacity models (32 GB, 64 GB), and as such we have decided to focus our efforts here.”
It would appear that RIM is discontinuing the 16GB model because of a lower profit margin when compared to the larger memory models. Aspiring DJs need not worry, you can still get your groove on with the larger Playbook models.
