BlackBerry has started rolling out the latest version of its OS – 10.3.1. This is by far the best BlackBerry OS we have seen.

Devices like the Passport and the Classic come pre-loaded with BB OS 10.3.1. BlackBerry has also rolled out the update to older devices. If you recently updated your phone to BlackBerry 10.3.1, you will definitely want to explore the Advanced Interactions baked into the OS. They will take your productivity to new heights. After all, BlackBerry is all about productivity, and if you have access to one, you have every reason to take advantage of all the new features supported by the OS.

If your device runs BB OS 10.3.1, it will automatically wake up when you lift it. And by simply flipping the device you can silence an incoming call. Who wouldn’t love these features?

If you haven’t already started using these new features, we have put together a quick guide to get you started. Keep in mind that the Battery Saving Mode may turn off Advanced Interactions. So, if you’re using this mode, check your device settings by going to ‘Settings’ > ‘Battery Saving Mode’.

Lift to wake option

If you enable this option, your BlackBerry phone will automatically wake up when you lift it from a level surface. That means you can wake up the device without using the Power key or swiping up from the bottom.

To enable or disable this option, go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Advanced Interactions’ and set the ‘Lift to Wake’ option to your preferred setting.

Flip to mute

This is another great feature included in 10.3.1. If you enable Flip to Mute, you can silence an incoming call by simply flipping your phone face down. This can come in handy in those situations when you can’t answer an incoming call right away. To enable or disable this option, go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Advanced Interactions’ and then set the ‘Flip to Mute’ option to your preferred setting.

Flip to save power

BlackBerry devices get excellent battery life. The OS version 10.3.1 in particular is heavily optimized to enhance battery life. For example, the ‘Flip to Save Power’ feature provides a simple way to reduce power consumption and increase the battery life. All that you have to do is to place your phone face down on a level surface. This will automatically change it into the standby mode. Even when the phone is in the standby mode, it will continue to receive notifications for messages, incoming calls, and alarms while saving power at the same time.

To enable or disable this option, go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Advanced Interactions’ and then set the ‘Flip to Save Power’ switch to the preferred setting.

Hold to stay awake

Your device may turn off while you’re still reading a document. This can be quite annoying, but BlackBerry has found a way to fix this issue. The ‘Hold to Stay Awake’ feature will keep the display on as long as you keep the device in your hand. When you enable this option, it will override your phone’s Screen Timeout value. As a result the display will remain on.

To enable or disable this option, go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Advanced Interactions’ and then set the ‘Hold to Stay Awake’ switch to your preferred setting.
