viigo news Introducing Viigo News A Lighter, Faster, News & RSS Version!

I’m a big time user of the Viigo BlackBerry application and it’s always one of the first apps I recommend to other BlackBerry users. Viigo comes packed with LOTS of features, but some may not use all of them and just want the basic News and RSS channels. For those who want just News and RSS, Viigo has just announced their new Viigo News version!

The Viigo News application allows you to select from hundreds of popular business, finance, sports, entertainment or headline news directly from the Channel Library, which has 13 newly organized categories to choose from. Viigo News also has an updated user-interface with new buttons across the bottom of the Channel screen.

The News version still lets you share items through email, del.icio.us, or popular social networks like Twitter and Facebook. For those that don’t have data plans there is now also a dedicated WiFi option so it only updates when you’re connected to a wireless internet source!

To download the new Viigo News version go to getviigo.com/news from your Blackberry Browser. If you’d like the original version of Viigo you can download it from getviigo.com.

Note: Before installing Viigo News you must uninstall any previous version of Viigo and do a reboot (battery pull). After that you can download Viigo News, sign in and all your feeds will re-load.

dub sendcard DubMeNow v2.0 Released New User Interface, LinkedIn, Faster Downloads And More!

DubMeNow let me know that they have released v2.0 for BlackBerry with some great new features!

Here’s what DUB is all about:

  • Your mobile business card
Exchanging contact information has never been easier. DUB sends your contact information from any mobile phone directly to the address book of your recipient’s mobile phone.
  • Your address book is always up-to-date
Whether changing jobs or just a phone number, DUB updates your mobile phone’s address book whenever a contact’s information changes. So you’re always able to reach the contacts you need.
  • Designed for your phone’s existing address book
DUB is designed to add contacts to your mobile phone’s existing address book, so you don’t have to change the way you use your phone.
  • Never manually enter or update contact information again
Manually entering or updating contacts in your address book is tedious and time-consuming. Let DUB do it for you – so you can get down to business.

Changes in v2.0 include a new interface, ability to send LinkedIn invite, faster download and more. DUB also let me know that they are planning on releasing v2.5 in September with the ability to connect via GPS, add  photos and over twenty social media fields to your card, plus a Groups tab.

In addition, they are finalizing a private label deal to put DUB in the hands of students at a bunch universities this fall! This is great, especially since I’m a student myself :-) .

Get started by creating your DUB card here and then download the application OTA by going to DubMeNow.com from your BlackBerry Browser. Let me know what you think about this app in the comments!

*UPDATE The BlackBerry Lite version has gone into closed beta like the full SocialScope version. It actually looks like the Lite version and full SocialScope version might be one in the same now.

SocialScope is in private beta. To request an invite, complete the form below and we’ll be in touch as soon as an account is available.

Along with making it closed beta they have also changed around their links and redesigned their site. Maybe for a big release? We’ll see.

Those that were able to download it when they did should consider themselves lucky :-D . I’ll be keeping an eye on SocialScope in case they decide to open it again. *

For the past few weeks I’ve been part of a closed beta of SocialScope for BlackBerry, a social network application that currently integrates Twitter and Facebook.

While checking my Tweets yesterday I noticed that there has been a lot of talk about a SocialScope Lite application. At first I thought it was either a joke or a prank because @SocialScope had not officially mentioned anything.

After doing some searching I found a review blog post by Paul Boocock with plenty of screenshots and details. Up till now I couldn’t really talk about the new features since I was testing out a newer version, but it looks like the SocialScope Lite application is pretty much the same. At least I didn’t notice any difference so far.

Since SocialScope Lite is out there…I guess I can go into details now ;-) .

Features:

  • Add your Twitter and Facebook accounts for status updates
  • Multiple tabs for each account, saved searches and groups
  • Forward as Retweet, Email or SMS
  • Profile alerts for each type of Tweet
  • View user profiles, followers, friends, recent updates as well as follow/unfollow options
  • View your own profile
  • Visible “new tweet” notifications

SocialScope is my favorite social network application so far, and they have lots of upcoming features I’m sure everyone will be excited about.

Don’t forget to follow me @BlackBerryRocks. Let me know what you think!
