There are a lot of folks out there who already have their hands on a Blackberry Z10. Unfortunately, there are also a lot of us that have to wait to use one. Nevertheless, this is still an excellent time to cover some of the most basic features that can be performed on the phone.

No doubt power users will already know how to change the wallpaper, and restart the phone. Less advanced users will need a little help in figuring out how to do these things, and that’s where we come in. Today, we’re going to take you through the steps for each process, so that by the time you get your hands on a device, you practically already know how to use it. Of course, if you have your Z10 to follow along, that’s even better!

How to Change the Wallpaper

This process is pretty straightforward and doesn’t require any advanced knowledge. Which means, if you’re just a basic user, you can do this too!

Everyone likes to customize their phone, in fact, it’s usually one of the first things people do when they get a new phone. The good news is that it’s pretty easy to change the wallpaper in Blackberry 10, and the OS even comes bundled with a bunch of cool images for you to use. Of course, if you want to use a custom image of your own, you can always do that too!

Through Display Settings Menu

  • Choose the “Settings” icon
  • Select “Display” from the menu
  • Next to “Wallpaper” press the button that says “Select”

On the next screen,  you will be presented with a gallery of preselected Blackberry 10 wallpapers. To choose one, you just have to select it in the list. To use your own custom image, just select the “Up” icon in the bottom left, and you can browse to the location where your custom image is saved. Of course, you can also use the camera to take a picture, by selecting the appropriate icon.

Through the Pictures App

It’s also quite easy to set a wallpaper through the native pictures app in Blackberry 10. First you must find the image you want to use, and select it. Naturally, it will load within the app, and you should be staring at a full screen preview of the image. Follow the steps below to set that image as your wallpaper:

  • Press the overflow icon (3 dots) in the bottom right of the screen. Remember this is the standard menu button for all Blackberry apps
  • In the menu that appears, choose the “Set As” option
  • Then be sure to select “Wallpaper” next

Unfortunately, no confirmation will appear to indicate the wallpaper change, but if you did everything properly you should see your new photo as the background on your home screen.

How to Reboot/ Power-Off the Z10

This process is extremely easy, and it doesn’t require too many steps. For all your power related needs you just simply have to turn to the small button on the top of the device. A quick press of the button will put the device to sleep or wake it up as one would expect. However, the button has another reason for being there, as well.

To reboot your Z10 just press and hold the power/standby button until the following screen appears.

Obviously, when you see the screen above select the “Restart” icon.

To turn off the Z10, just press and hold the same power/standby button until the device starts counting down. Naturally, it will power off when finished, and you will need to press the power button again to turn it back on.

Pretty simple, right? Oh, the glory of Blackberry 10.
