BlackBerry has started offering Custom BBM PIN Subscriptions. This was one of the new BBM features announced at Mobile World Congress.

All BBM users have a PIN. This is an alphanumeric code number linked to your BlackBerry ID. A Custom PIN is a PIN that is easy to remember. It is not free. It costs US $1.99 /month. In this article, you will find all the information you need to get the most out of your custom PIN.

What exactly is a Custom PIN?

This is an interesting feature found on BlackBerry Messenger. It allows existing as well as new BBM users to create a customized BBM PIN. Share your Custom PIN with your contacts and they will be able to add you to BlackBerry Messenger. This makes adding contacts easier.

Here is how to get started with BBM PIN.

In order to use the service, you have to run the latest version of the BlackBerry Messenger on your smartphone. The latest version of BBM is now available for BB 10 and Android users. iOS users will have to wait a little longer to receive the update.

Here is how to get your Custom PIN.

  • Open BBM
  • There is an icon consisting of three bars in the bottom left. Tap it.
  • Tap ‘Shop’
  • Scroll down the page to subscriptions and then choose ‘Custom PIN Subscription’.
  • The next step is to create your Custom PIN. It is that simple.

How to create a good PIN?

It is easy to pick your custom PIN and there are plenty of options. You have to choose a nickname. It does not matter what it is. Just make sure that it reflects who you are.

Your PIN should be of an appropriate length. It must consist of 6-8 characters. It is not case sensitive. It can include numbers and letters. You cannot use special characters in your PIN. BlackBerry says that there is huge demand for custom PIN subscriptions. So, you have to act quickly if you want to get your choice of custom PIN.

How to manage your PIN subscription?

The steps you need to take to get your Custom PIN renewed vary by device.

If you want to retain your Custom PIN, you will have to renew the subscription.

Custom BBM PINs If you own a BB 10 or Android device, your subscriptions will automatically renew through your respective stores on a monthly basis.

iOS users will be sent a renewal alert every month. Users can renew their subscription in advance or wait till they receive the renewal reminder.

If you do not renew your subscription, you will no longer be able to use that Custom PIN. In addition, other users will be able to select that PIN as their Custom BBM PIN. And your PIN will revert back to your original PIN which is an alphanumeric code.

Manage your PIN subscription

If you are on a BlackBerry 10 device, you can manage your subscription from BlackBerry World. Tap ‘My World’ to manage your Custom PIN Subscriptions.

If you are on an Android device, you have to log into Google Wallet to manage your PIN subscriptions.

Users on iOS will receive a renewal reminder every month. If they don’t renew their subscription, it will expire at the end of the period.
