US wireless carrier AT&T has announced that BlackBerry’s latest phones – the Classic and the Passport – will be available for purchase from AT&T’s retail sites and website starting February 20th.
In the US, the Passport is exclusive to AT&T. The AT&T version has a new design with rounded corners. The Passport has a 4.5 inch touchscreen display with full HD resolution. Unlike other touchscreen phones on the market, the Passport has also got a touch-enabled physical QWERTY keyboard. Thanks to its wide square screen, the handset is ideal for viewing documents, spreadsheets and webpages.
The BlackBerry Passport has been lauded by both customers and critics for its incredible power and productivity. The device is built for speed and durability. It is powered by a 2.2GHz Qualcomm quad core processor. The device also comes with a 13 MP camera with HD video recording capabilities. It has 32 GB of internal storage. The storage can be expanded by an extra 128GB through a microSD card.
The BlackBerry Passport runs the BB OS version 10.3. It has a gigantic 3450 mAH battery. The smartphone easily gets more than 24 hours of battery life on 4G. And then there are features like BlackBerry Blend and Assistant which take your productivity to an altogether new level.
You can take home a brand new Passport without paying anything if you purchase it through AT&T Next. If you don’t mind signing up for a 2-year service contract, you can get it for $199.99. The unlocked version runs $649.99.
The BlackBerry Classic
The BlackBerry Classic is designed for the busy professional who seeks speed and accuracy. It has BlackBerry’s famous keyboard, navigation keys and trackpad. This makes it an ideal device for quickly communicating with one hand. If you choose AT&T Next, you can buy the Classic for $0 down payment. With a service contract, you can get it for $49.99. The unlocked version runs $419.99.
The BlackBerry Classic is a no-nonsense phone. It has a familiar design. If you already own a BlackBerry Bold 9900 and want to upgrade to a smarter phone, the Classic is a great choice. Compared to the Bold 9900, the Classic has a faster browser and a 60 percent larger touchscreen. The device runs BlackBerry’s 10.3.1 OS. The Classic also comes with BlackBerry Assistant and BlackBerry Blend. It has an 8 megapixel rear facing camera and a 2 megapixel front camera. The 2,515 mAh battery will provide enough juice for more than 20 hours.
AT&T’s 4G LTE network is the most trusted 4G network in the US and covers over 300 million Americans. AT&T was the first wireless carrier to introduce a BlackBerry phone in the US. Since then AT&T has carried several BlackBerry devices.
If you are already an AT&T customer, it is easy to buy a Passport or Classic. You can have one of these phones for just $49.99 on a 2-year contract.
So, which one will you buy? If you are an adventurous type who is looking for an altogether new experience, the Passport is ideal for you. If you like familiarity, then you will absolutely love the Classic.
