Video: Augmented Reality With Wikitude, Preloaded On BlackBerry 7 Smartphones!

By Mauricio

One of the cool features on the upcoming BlackBerry smartphones with the new BlackBerry 7 OS (including the Bold 9900) is the addition of Augmented Reality (AR) thanks to Wikitude. The Wikitude World Browser will come preloaded on devices with OS 7 and offers great integration with applications like BlackBerry Maps, BlackBerry Messenger and others. Here’s a bit on AR from Wikipedia:

Augmentation is conventionally in real-time and in semantic context with environmental elements, such as sports scores on TV during a match. With the help of advanced AR technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulable. Artificial information about the environment and its objects can be overlaid on the real world.

RIM recently posted a video showing how the Wikitude World Browser will work on the Bold 9900 and the “exciting opportunity augmented reality can bring to your apps”. Check out the video below!
