Halfbrick Studios specializes in mobile game development. They’re well known for their mobile titles which feature Barry Steakfries, a dynamic and uncensored hero that actually just loves to kick the shit out of stuff.

Barry Steakfries actually stars in several games like Age of Zombies, Monster Dash and the game we’re going to talk about today, Jetpack Joyride. The Halfbrick titles have been available on Android and iOS for some time now. Luckily, Halfbrick just added Blackberry 10 support to Jetpack Joyride, which was previously available for the Blackberry Playbook. Hopefully the developer’s other titles will soon follow suit.

The game itself is pretty straightforward. You take control of Barry Steakfries, a disgruntled employee who breaks into the laboratory at his work and steals an experimental jetpack. The game is an endless sidescroller, and you essentially guide Barry along dodging obstacles, eliminating enemies and collecting coins and other goodies. All you need to do to control Barry is tap the screen, and his jetpack will propel him into the air. That’s it! To dodge obstacles, you just have to balance use of the jetpack by allowing Barry to fall or fly at different times.

The coins you collect can be used to purchase new outfits for Barry, equipment and vehicle upgrades and a number of other customization options. Essentially it gives you an incentive to keep playing over and over.

As you progress through your playthrough (each one lasts only a short while) the scenery changes at different points. The game also gets more difficult as the speed increases and the emergence of obstacles is more frequent.

There are online leaderboards to compare scores and stats with other member of the community, as well. If you have a more competitive nature, then you’ll enjoy moving up rank in leaderboards.

The game runs incredibly smooth on the Blackberry Z10, which is something that I’m sure everyone will love to hear. Seeing as the platform is relatively new, there are quite a few apps out there that suffer from software bugs and growing pains.

Here’s the colorful description of the game lifted off the product page:

Join Barry as he breaks in to a secret laboratory to commandeer the experimental jetpacks from the clutches of science evildoers. After lift-off, simply touch the screen to ascend and release to descend, raining bullets, bubbles, rainbows and lasers downwards as you fly towards higher and higher scores!

You’ll start off with the legendary Machine Gun Jetpack to scatter the evil scientists of Legitimate Research, but throughout each game you’ll collect coins and complete missions to earn cash and buy new gear in The Stash! Pick your favorite jetpack, snazzy outfit and stock up on items then get back out there!

Get a boost of speed and power using the Lil’ Stomper, Profit Bird and Crazy Freaking Teleporter, just a selection of the vehicles pickups available – all playable with one touch controls.

Stay alive get funky and lose yourself in Jetpack Joyride. There’s so much to see and do, all the time in the world and more than enough jetpacks! As always, Barry Steakfries will provide!
