Christmas and New Year holidays are almost here. If you are like most people, you will probably want to spend these days with your near and dear ones. Of course, you will also want to immortalize those moments in photos and videos.

Fortunately for you, the latest version of the BlackBerry 10 OS comes with excellent camera skills. Here are some tips for getting the most out of the Camera app in BlackBerry 10.3.

Can’t be with your loved ones this holiday season? Don’t worry. You can share these pics with the help of your BlackBerry.

The timer feature

The timer feature allows you to delay shooting an image. If the camera is in the Normal mode or Time Shift mode, you can delay shooting by three seconds or ten seconds. This delay will allow you to get into the frame yourself.

Here is how to set the timer.

Open the Camera application. Tap the three dots. Tap the icons indicating 3 or 10 for setting the timer.

Turn on Grid Lines

When you turn on the grid lines in the camera viewfinder snapping the perfect photo becomes quite easy. This feature is great for taking outdoor photos.

Open the Camera application and swipe down from the upper part of the display. Tap ‘Settings’. Now turn on ‘Display Grid Lines’.

Add slow motion effects to the video

BlackBerry 10.3 allows you to add slow motion effects to your videos. Here is how to do this.

Set your phone to shoot video at 60 fps. This will make your videos smoother when you apply slow motion effects.

Open the Camera application and swipe down from the upper part of the display. You will find several 60 fps options. Select one of them. Shoot some videos. You can slow down the video by completing the following steps.

Open the Videos application after shooting a video. Tap ‘Edit’ and then tap ‘Enhance’. Tap ‘Slow Motion’. You can apply slow motion effects to specific sections of the video by adjusting the sliders. Tap the ‘Play’ icon. This will slow down the video by 25 or 50 percent. Save the video and then edit it again if you would like to slow down the video by another 25 or 50 percent.

How to geotag pictures

When you capture images you can geo-tag them with your location. Here is how to do it.

Open the Camera application and swipe down from the upper part of the display. Tap ‘Settings’. Turn ‘Geotag Pictures’ on.

How to preview pictures quickly

You can take a quick glance at the last photo you shot without leaving the Camera app.

Touch and hold the thumbnail. You will find it at the bottom.

Expand the thumbnail by sliding up your finger. When you take your finger off the screen, you will go back to the Camera application. To delete the photo, slide your finger on to the Delete icon. Take your finger off the display when you reach this icon. Tap Delete or Cancel.

To share the photo, slide your finger onto the Share icon. Take your finger off the display and choose a way of sharing.
