The BlackBerry Z3 and the BlackBerry Passport have won the illustrious iF Design Award 2015.
The iF Design Award recognizes excellence in design. The iF International Forum Design has been offering these awards for more than 60 years. Over the last six decades or so, the iF logo has become an acclaimed symbol of outstanding performance in design.
The international jury that declared these awards assessed over 5,000 entries selected from 53 nations to decide who would win this coveted honor. The BlackBerry smartphones won the awards because of their ergonomic design and impressive features. Here is a quick overview of some features of the Passport and the Z3 that impressed the award jury.
The passport is an international symbol of mobility. BlackBerry’s Passport has a passport inspired design. The device is quite light which makes it ideal for traveling. It is built on BlackBerry’s heritage and strength. Still it is innovative and new. Modern smartphones do not have physical keyboards, but the Passport is different. It has a touch-sensitive keypad which makes typing a pleasure. And to enhance the typing experience BlackBerry used a typeface in the same color and size for both virtual and physical keys. The Passport has a rugged stainless steel frame which improves the durability and aesthetic appeal of the device. Also the screen glass is polished to perfection.
The Z3 has a minimal design. The device has a 5 inch capacitive touchscreen display which makes it ideal for the ultimate BlackBerry 10 experience. With its minimal and modern design, the Z3 strikes the perfect balance between elegance and utility. Its construction is not much different from that of the BlackBerry Passport. While it looks slim, it is highly durable. BlackBerry has precision-drilled the audio ports by a laser to achieve a unified look. The perfect alignment between the display and other details create a composition which reflects clarity, harmony and care.
The Z3 and the Passport will be showcased in the iF design exhibition which will be held at Hamburg’s HafenCity.
The Passport and the Z3 have been huge hits with customers as well. The Passport has garnered a large number of reviews on Amazon. 93 percent of reviewers have given the device 4 or 5 stars. That is clearly a mark of approval. Most of these reviewers are all praise for the device.
They are impressed with its build quality, phenomenal battery life and excellent browsing capabilities. Also, the phone can run a large number of apps and games. One of the biggest ‘drawbacks’ of BlackBerry devices is that they don’t have a large number of apps built for them. But the Passport is different. Thanks to BlackBerry’s recent agreement with Amazon, users can now download apps from both Amazon Appstore and BlackBerry World.
The Z3 was a huge hit in Indonesia and India where BlackBerry still enjoys a great deal of popularity. It is a price-competitive device and part of its popularity can be attributed to the fact that it has access to more than 200,000 Android apps via Amazon’s Appstore.
