Doodle Jump is a pretty damn popular game on all mobile platforms, including Android, and iOS. Perhaps the funniest part about it is that it’s so remarkably simple. Have you ever heard of Doodle Jump before? Have you ever had the opportunity to play it before?
Well fortunately now you can play it on your Blackberry 10 device, as it’s just been made available in Blackberry World. The idea is simple, you take control of a charming little character and bounce your way around the screen earning points for your progress the entire time. The character looks a lot like Q-Bert from the classic video game titles, complete with a long anteater-like snout.
It’s called Doodle Jump because the environment looks completely hand-drawn on graph paper. That’s right, you’re essentially progressing through hand-drawn levels on graph paper in an effort to get as far as possible. Along the way, you have to avoid enemies (black holes and baddies), and plenty of obstacles that pop up in the way. To progress through the levels you simply jump from one platform to the next, moving through the stage.
There are no physical controls to bother with, instead the Doodle character jumps completely on its own. Your job is simply to tilt the device back and forth, navigating the Doodle from one platform to the next. Think of the little guy as a rather unorthodox kangaroo.
You can also tap the screen to fire projectiles from the Doodle’s mouth. This allows you to dispatch enemies and baddies that are in the way. Of course, some things just can’t be eliminated and the only way to get past them is to avoid them.
Doodle Jump also includes the following features and mechanics:
- Many fantastical worlds to play in
- Space, Jungle, Soccer, Underwater, Snow, Halloween, Ice, Easter, and now NINJA!!
- Awesome power-ups to pick-up (JET PACKs, PROPELLER HATS, ROCKETS, trampolines…)
- Trippy obstacles to avoid (UFOs, black holes, and many, many monstrous monsters)
- Mad platforms to jump on (Broken, moving, disappearing, shifting, EXPLODING…)
- Global leaderboards, fun achievements! Beat your friends’ scores!
Obviously, of most import is that there’s actually a lot of content available with the gae. You can progress through several different worlds and themes, as well as pick up various power-ups which totally change the gameplay experience. My favorite are the jetpacks of course which send you skyrocketing for long distances throughout each level.
Also, there are global leaderboards so you can compare your score with other friends and family that play Doodle Jump. I like to find random players on the leaderboards and set personal goals to compete with their scores. It makes the game a lot more fun to play, not that it’s not already tons of fun!
Doodle Jump is available through Blackberry World for $0.99, and as always you can hit up the widget below to navigate to the appropriate page. It works with the Blackberry Z10, Q10 and Q5. So, pretty much if you have a Blackberry 10 device you’re in the clear!
