BlackBerry has added several new features to its BBM messaging app. Here are some tips and tricks for taking advantage of these cool new features.
How to retract messages?
Latest updates to BBM have made it possible to retract messages. If, after sending a message, you discover that it was sent to the wrong person, you can retract it. This will save you a lot of trouble.
It is easy to retract message. Tap and hold the BBM message you would like to retract. A Retract Message icon will appear on the display along the right.
BBM for Android Widget
BBM is now available for Android users. And with the BBM widget for Android, users can access their BBM conversations faster. Users can find this widget on the ‘Apps’ page under the ‘Widgets’ tab. Tap and hold the widget on the home screen to resize it. Use the resize bars to adjust the size.
Enable Chat History
The default option to close a chat is to use ‘End Chat’. This will also erase the conversation history. If you would like to save the chat, you can activate the ‘Save Chat History’ feature. This will let you see messages sent to and received from your BBM contacts even after you have closed chats with them.
If you are using BlackBerry 10, here is how to do this.
- Open BlackBerry Messenger and swipe down.
- Tap ‘Settings’ and then toggle the ‘Save Chat History’ switch.
If you are using BBM for iPhone or Android
- Open BBM. Tap the three vertically arranged dots and then tap ‘Settings’
- Turn the ‘Save Chat History’ switch to On.
If you are using BlackBerry Messenger for Windows Phone devices
- Open BBM. Tap the three horizontally arranged dots and then tap ‘Settings’ followed by ‘Chats’.
- Set the ‘Save Chat History’ switch to On.
Contact Grid or Contact List
Your BBM contacts are usually displayed as a list. You can also have them shown using a grid layout. If you use the listing option, you can easily see your contact’s status message. The grid option, on the other hand, will give a larger picture of his or her display picture.
If you are a BlackBerry 10 user
Open BBM and then swipe down from the upper part of the display. Tap ‘Settings’ and then select List or Grid within ‘Contacts’ layout.
Android and iPhone users
Open BBM and then tap the three dots found in the bottom.
Tap ‘Settings’ and then select List or Grid within ‘Contacts’ Layout.
Windows phone users
Open BBM and then switch to the ‘contacts’ view.
Tap the three dots found in the bottom and then tap list/grid.
BBM users on Android, BlackBerry and iPhone can now send Timed Messages. This feature adds a new icon to the chat window. If you don’t use this feature, you will probably want to hide the icon. Here is how to do it.
BlackBerry 10 users

Android and iPhone users
Open BBM and then tap the three dots found in the bottom. Tap ‘Settings’ and then toggle the ‘Timed Messages’ switch.
