BlackBerry Classic has been a huge hit. The device has received rave reviews from tech journalists as well as users. Whether you are a new BlackBerry 10 user or an experienced one, this quick guide will help you get started with the Classic.

Insert the SIM card

The first thing that you should do after unboxing your BlackBerry Classic is to insert the nano SIM card. Pull the SIM card tray out using the tool provided in the box. Place the SIM card into the tray with its metal contacts facing away from you. Now push the tray back into the slot.

In case you want to insert a media card, you will need to repeat the same process. Note that the SD card slot is on the left side. If you don’t have a nano SIM card of the right size, you should ask your service provider. After installing the nano SIM card, you have to complete the Classic setup wizard.

Complete the setup wizard

Press and hold the power button to turn on the device. The setup wizard will show you how you can connect to a Wi-Fi connection, create a BlackBerry ID or sign into your existing ID.

The Setup application will open automatically when you finish the Setup wizard.

Within the Setup application, you can perform several actions. You can learn about the various gestures, add email and social media accounts, setup BBM, customize device notifications and transfer data from another device. You will also be able to set a password for the device. To minimize the Setup application, swipe up from the bottom of the display.

Transfer data from another device

You can use several different methods to transfer data from your old phone to the Classic. One way of doing this is to use the Setup app. Open the Setup application, tap ‘Switching Devices’ and then follow the instructions.

After transferring your data to the Classic, don’t forget to wipe the content on the old device. This is done to ensure that it no longer contains any personal information.

Set a password and enable BlackBerry Protect

Setting a password is crucial. It will prevent people from accessing your device if you leave it unattended. And if you ever lose the device, others will not be able to access your information without the password. Follow these steps to set a password for your Classic.

  • Swipe down from the top of the display when you are on the Home screen.
  • Tap ‘Settings’ and then tap ‘Security and Privacy’
  • Tap ‘Device Password’
  • Toggle the ‘Device Password’ switch to ‘On’.
