So, you just got your shiny new Z10, and you have fallen in love. You’ve also decided to rid yourself of that pesky old Blackberry you keep lying about. What can you do with it exactly?
If you don’t already have a backup device for those “just in case” moments, I would recommend storing it away. You never know what can happen in the land of smartphone ownership. Just the other day, for example, my mom climbed into a hot tub on vacation- lo and behold she had her smartphone in her pocket. Whoops!
If you do already have a backup device, you’ll be happy to know that Gamestop is offering cash or in store credit when you trade in old smartphones. Obviously, you’re not going to get as much money for the device as you will if you sell it outright on eBay, Amazon or Craigslist, but that’s okay. Some folks just don’t like dealing with all the extra stress that comes along with selling old merchandise, and I don’t blame them.
Gamestop is now accepting Blackberry, iOS and Android devices for trade-in, and that includes smartphones and tablets. It goes without saying, if you choose to take in-store credit over cash, you’ll get more value for your device. In addition to the smartphone itself, you can also trade-in accessories, packaging and peripherals that will earn you even more credit. Obviously Gamestop will resell the devices, so trading in the retail packaging also helps them out a lot.
Personally, I’m not a fan of Gamestop and their trade-in/resell tactics. It makes me angry when companies low-ball you and then turn around and sell the item for increased profit. At least the option is now available for anyone who does want to trade-in their old stuff. This comes especially in handy if you are interested in getting some new video game titles or consoles.
I’ve included the full press release below for your perusal. You’ll also find the estimated trade-in values for older devices.
